Quote of Inspiration

I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Atilla and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.

A Thought.........

I was toasting challah this morning for the kids, and I had a thought: I bet now that I've made challah, I can make homemade cinnamon rolls.

I've never made them because the idea of filling and rolling and cutting something has just seemed so complicated. But, then, a challah braid made me cry and I lived through it, so homemade cinnamon rolls might just doable as well.

I think that this is the point - that doing something makes us feel like we can do the next thing......and I think it's a cycle that keeps on going.

Anyone have a good cinnamon roll recipe?

  1. I make homemade cinnamon rolls every New Year's Eve, so that will be the first bite of the New Year... something incredibly delicious! They are involved, yes, but very easy and very fun!! I'll see if I can dig out the recipe for you!

  2. @Pamela Terry & Edward - I would LOVE the recipe if you can dig it up. I love the idea of them being easy and fun. Thanks!

  3. ummm...your sister makes a killer cinnamon roll.

  4. Maria - I'm going to strong-arm that recipe out of her! I'm sure it will be totally involved and high-brow but worth it.

  5. I have made the Better Homes and Gardens recipe (red and white cookbook) and the Pioneer Woman's... I preferred the BH&G. I think you are going to find the cinnamon rolls easier than the challah.
